Bandage Preparation Groups
Bandage
making groups meet the first and third (sometimes
more) Thursday from 6:00 to 8 pm at Westland
Free Methodist Church. Dates: May 1st and 15th, June 5th and 19th
at 6:00 pm of 2008 (new time 6 to 8 pm).
Each
week many people come together
to prepare bandages for Joshua and Sarah to use. The pre-packaged
Vaseline gauze sticks to the wounds of EB patients if they do
not have extra Vaseline added to them. In addition, an
antibiotic must be added to each bandage as well. This process is
very time consuming.
By preparing these ahead of time, the Thurmond family is saved
several hours per week of bandage preparation. Countless people
have been involved in this group effort. Volunteers are always
welcomed. See Photos

WWFEB
has five purposes:
1. When possible, help financially those families with EB to
each the burden of medical treatment and other needs. WWFEB
has appropriated 58% of the total donations to this purpose. The Thurmond
family has really felt your presence here!
2. When practical, give physical support to those families with
EB. The groups preparing bandages have given countless hours
back to the Thurmond family. Sometimes just being there is most beneficial!
3. Fund EB research to find a cure for the disease.
Wouldn't it be great to one day not have this problem? WWFEB
wrote a check for research to Stanford University for $4800 which was
matched 100%. As other organizations continue this effort, research
will get closer to a total cure.
4. Enhance EB awareness to our community. 2 ½
% of our total receipts are pledged to making people in our neighborhoods
aware. We are getting the word out through the press, Rotary Club,
and our local school district. Most of our awareness is done entirely
through volunteers.
5. Bring families of EB together by maintaining a strong communications
network. In February WWFEB contributed $1,000 to the Have
a Heart for EB event. This December we will co-sponsor a Santa Social
with the KissesforKatie organization. These events may be the most
gratifying opportunities as we see EB families being reacquainted
and providing support to one another.
What
we really want you to know is that we have put your donations to great
work. Our administrative costs are less than 3% of the total receipts.
This is remarkable! Believe it or not, the 37 cent stamp is one of our
highest expenses.
As you give, real relief is received.
Thank you,
Your WWFEB Board
